Vision
Small Schools for Equity envisions a world where education is humanizing and inspires teacher and student leaders to advance freedom for all.
Mission
The mission of Small Schools for Equity is to support social justice education in San Francisco and beyond through professional development for educators and leadership development for youth.
History
Small Schools for Equity was founded in 2001 by a group of teachers, parents, and students who believed that San Francisco needed a new and innovative model of schooling. In partnership with the San Francisco Organizing Project (now Faith in Action Bay Area), we led a broad-based community organizing effort, studied successful schools across the country, and in 2003 opened a new school, June Jordan School for Equity (JJSE), in the San Francisco Unified School District. For the past 15 years, we have supported JJSE to become a nationally known leader in social justice education. Today, we are expanding our work to support innovative projects like 415 Unidos for Freedom which grow from the same community-based spirit.
